When the cycle clearly helps, load a stuck color onto the elevator instead of forcing a longer manual path.
Keep the return lane clear so the block lands where you want it.

Hold a buffer lane
Always keep one lane open as a landing spot for returned blocks.
A buffer prevents the elevator from stranding a piece you still need.
